Pooh believes that hard work plus talent equal success

Pooh first gained fame with his series of funny spoofs of Manny Pacquiao, but the comedian has proven that he can do more than just impersonate the international boxing champ. Pooh now has a guest role in the top-rating primetime teleserye I Love Betty La Fea where he plays the opportunistic model-search assistant Eda. ABS-CBN.com recently spoke with the comedian who shared how the character of Betty reminded him of his past struggles in life.
Pooh started out his career as an entertainer by doing stand-ups in several sing-along and comedy bars. His knack for making people laugh eventually paved the way for a few TV appearances. Pooh was a part of the sitcom John En Shirley which was top-billed by Dolphy, Susan Roces, and Maricel Soriano and the teleserye Pangarap Na Bituin which starred Sarah Geronimo and Jericho Rosales.
But finding his niche in the industry did not come that easily. It took Pooh quite some time before he discovered his talent and realized that he could use it to make a living. “Nagsumikap ako. Lahat nagsimula sa hard work. Na-realize ko na ‘yung strong point ko is pagpapatawa, so ginalingan ko talaga. May talent din naman pala ako.”
After last year’s sold-out series of shows, Poohkwang, where he teamed-up with Pokwang, Pooh will be busy with more shows abroad. He and Pokwang will join John Lloyd Cruz and The Coverboys for the Sinulog celebration in Cebu on January 16. He also has a solo show at the 22nd Street bar on January 17. A possible role in another teleserye is also in the works.
Even with his busy schedule, Pooh said that given some free time amidst, he’d love to go back to doing stand-ups in comedy bars. Napapako kami ng halos two weeks. Pag-uwi mo naman may taping pa so wala na talagang time. Wala nga akong love life.”
