Actor Derek Ramsay said on The Buzz’s Tough 10 yesterday (March 29) that he has always been faithful to girlfriend of three years, actress Angelica Panganiban. His statement was brought about by the rumors he was often seen at a prestigious university picking up a pretty young collegiate. Derek confessed that he has been indeed dropping by Ateneo de Manila and De La Salle University to fetch his friends and sports buddies but he had no romantic dates of any sort.
“My friends sa Frisbee, nag-aaral pa rin sila. May times na nakapunta na ako sa Ateneo at sa La Salle to pick them up to go to practice or just to even hang out so I can’t even deny that I haven’t been to a university,” he admitted. He even said that Angelica knew of these activities and that she was okay with it. “I can never leave my friends. I came in showbiz with these guys so ang respect ko sa kanila, ‘di ko sila iiwan. I’m proud to be their friends so, if people say I’m with another girl, I don’t mind.”
When host Kris Aquino asked Derek for anything he would like to ask for Angelica’s forgiveness, it is for his stubbornness on pursuing extreme sports. “’Yung pagka-hardheaded ko. I wanna say sorry that I don’t listen to you as much as I want to,” Derek addressed Angelica. He said that Angelica has tried to persuade him to give up sports for he might get hurt, but he continues to play anyway. Just last weekend, Derek broke a finger in a game of rugby and he also has a permanent knee injury which he had acquired in a sport accident which constantly worries Angelica. “She gets worried. Ayaw niya ng rugby, ayaw niya ng Frisbee,” revealed the actor. A self-confessed daredevil, Derek said that he is the type who likes conquering his fears. “I like to get over my fears. Takot ako sa heights so tumalon ako sa eroplano. Nag-skydiving ako sa Canada. Takot ako sa mga sharks, so next year sa South Africa, I want to swim with the great white sharks with no cage with my friends,” he shared.
Derek also said that although he and Angelica have misunderstandings, they always try their very best to overcome it. He said too that being jealous over other men has never been an issue with him and Angelica. “I am totally against jealousy. Hindi sa nagyayabang pero I’m secure with myself and my relationship with Angel. It’s all based on trust. At kung may lalaki mang ganun I’d like to see that kasi I would see if she wants me or she wants that guy. Jealousy is just bad for me,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the actor has two projects currently lined up. He is part of the Maricel Soriano starrer T2 which will premiere in theaters this April plus he is also shooting Habang May Buhay opposite Judy Ann Santos. Derek confessed that he’s striving to be like actor John Lloyd Cruz, who he has worked with in the movie One More Chance. “I’ve learned a lot from John Lloyd by watching him act on the set. He just sits in one corner and focuses on his character. Talagang kita mo talaga na nagpo-focus siya, so I try to be like that.”
