As a working student, David Nagtalon found luck when he was discovered by a Star Magic employee while working as an administration employee in a popular salon. He was then invited to a go-see for a bikini summit but got disheartened when the event didn’t push through. “I thought that was the end of it and modelling’s not for me. I took the incident as a sign that it’s just not for me kaya hindi natuloy. Magwo-work na lang ako at mag-aaral. May future ako dun,” he recalls. But he was then encouraged to try out for go-sees at Star Magic where he eventually made the cut for the newly-launched Star Circle batch 16. With a quiet demeanor that seems almost of sync with his imposing physique, David also has the brains to match the brawn.
The 22 year old IT student is now currently busy doing acting workshops at Star Magic. “I find acting really challenging. When there’s a challenge for me, I go for it. Yan yung gusto ko ngayong i-pursue. It’s changing how I am, my character. Tsaka gusto ko makita kung hanggang saan ako madadala nito. I-a-apply ko sa sarili ko yung mga natutunan ko. Acting is a new thing for me. I’m still finding my groove in acting, pero I think I’ll find it,” he muses. Although the six footer has always dreamed of walking down the runway, he never imagined going into showbiz. “I didn’t think I could act. My only background was doing small plays in school pero hindi talaga siya yung na-a-apply ko yung feelings ko at damdamin ko. Small-time lang,” he shares.
As an active person who used to play varsity basketball in San Beda Alabang, David also enjoys working out at the gym and web design. An independent spirit with a passion for what he believes in, David sees his showbiz career as a good learning opportunity. “I went into this kasi I wanna seee how this will affect who I am. I didn’t go here for a better future. Although hindi mawawala yun. Mas gusto ko ma-develop ngayon how acting can develop a stronger character in me. that’s how I look at life eh. I’m not into whims. I’d rather become stronger as I get older,” he confesses. This newcomer is admits looking up to the likes of Robin Padilla and Cesar Montano because of their ability to be able to do action and comedy at the same time. “I like Filipino comedy and action. Kahit na minsan na-ba-brand na baduy. Nasa artista yan eh. Kaya gusto ko pumasok sa ganung linya,” he adds.
Among his peers, David also explains what sets him apart from the other attractive new faces entering the limelight. “I’m distinct. You won’t see that when you look at me, but maybe when you talk to me and I do my thing and present myself, makikita mo siguro how different I am. Wala akong kapareho dito. A lot of people don’t know how hard life can be, harshness of reality. I think tough ako with whatever route my life takes me, ready ako,” he says confidently. A tough guy with a soft heart, David talks with maturity that seems beyond his years. “I don’t want showbiz to be a passing thing for me. Kasi, kung ako lang mag-de-decide, gusto ko mag-grow and have a successful career just like everybody else. Yun, common yun. Yung nagsa-strive maging artista. Pero sa tingin ko binigay sa akin itong opportunity na ito kasi hindi ko ito hiningi. Hindi ko ito hinahangad. Yung iba hinahangad ito. Ngayon nandito ako. Ipagpapatuloy ko ito. Gusto ko na ito,” he concludes.
